Live Scan Fingerprinting

Every time any volunteer arrives on campus, we will check your name against national databases for sex offenders, drug convictions, and violent crimes. And:

  • Regular Volunteer: If you are 18 or older and work directly with children for more than 16 hours a month (or 32 hours a year) or if you are supporting with athletics/sports, you must complete a Department of Justice Live Scan (an electronic, inkless fingerprinting method), a criminal history background check. This check stays active for as long as you are a volunteer at MWA.
  • Irregular Volunteer: If you are 18 or older and work directly with children for less than 16 hours a month (or 32 hours a year), you do not need to do the Live Scan.

Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment

By law, (CA Education Code section 49406) you cannot supervise or teach students unless you show proof of a Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment from the past 60 days. This proves you do not have active TB. If you pass this check, you only need to get a new TB Risk Assessment every four years.
