School-Wide Support

School-Wide Support

Students walking to class

Our somewhat unique configuration of adjacent campuses allows for a variety of shared services between Making Waves Academy’s (MWA) middle and upper school divisions.

Academics

The positions of SPED (Special Education) Director, ELD (English Language Development) Coordinator, and GATE (Gifted And Talented Education) Coordinator are school-wide in their scope, oversight, and coordination. As a result, the aim is to develop a high level of coherence and vertical integration between the Middle School and Upper School as well as between grades and content areas.

Social Emotional Learning

The Student Support Services Department (SSSD) provides schoolwide programming that fosters a physically and psychologically safe school environment for all students to belong and thrive in. Our programming focuses on maintaining healthy intrapersonal and interpersonal relationships through: restorative practices, social and emotional skill-building, mental health services, and proactive and responsive safety-related intervention.

Operations

The Director of School Operations and Operations Manager supervises support staff and coordinates activities such as office support, food service, campus supervision, bus monitoring, and general facility and operational support to both divisions.

IT Services

The IT Services Department keeps MWA connected, secure, and operationally sound — managing everything from cybersecurity and data networks to the software and collaboration tools the community depends on. This includes supporting over 1,000 students through a 1:1 Chromebook program, maintaining more than 150 computers and managing robust digital platforms for faculty and staff, and overseeing all school technology purchases to ensure MWA has the reliable, innovative infrastructure needed to thrive.
